Material Weight Calculator

Estimate the approximate weight of common raw materials by material, shape and dimensions.

Piece Weight 0.00 lb
Total Weight 0.00 lb

Estimates are approximate and may vary by exact alloy, grade and supplier data.

Using the Material Weight Calculator

This calculator provides an approximate raw-material weight based on material density, stock shape and the dimensions entered above. It can be useful for estimating the weight of stock before a machining project or comparing different material sizes.

The calculated value is an estimate. Exact density varies by alloy, grade and supplier, and the finished machined part will usually weigh less than the original stock because material is removed during machining.

Why Material Weight Matters

Raw-stock weight can affect material cost, shipping and handling. However, it is only one part of machining cost. Geometry, setup, machining time, quantity, tooling, tolerance requirements and finishing can all affect the final price.

For an Actual CNC Machining Quote

Send the drawing or STEP file, material, quantity, tolerances, finish requirements and requested completion date. Anco Precision can then review the actual part instead of relying only on a stock-weight estimate.

Material Weight FAQ

Is the calculator exact?

No. It uses typical material-density values and should be treated as an estimate.

Does it calculate finished-part weight?

Not necessarily. It calculates the entered stock geometry. The finished component may weigh less after material is removed.

Can I use the result to request a machining quote?

The calculator can help with planning, but an actual quote should be based on the drawing and complete project requirements.
