Plastic

Plastic

Plastic is a material that is found in nearly every single home or office on the planet which is why Anco precision machining offers numerous techniques for the manufacturing and shaping of this medium. It can be any one of a wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic organic material. Plastic is used in the manufacturing of numerous products. Plastics are forms of polymers of high and can have other substances added to them to improve strength and reduce cost. The term plastic is believed to have its origins in Greece.

The word itself translates to, capable of being shaped or molded. These forms of polymers have a high degree of plasticity and can be manufactured using various techniques including pressed, extruded, cast or injection molded. Any one of these methods can create films, fibers bottles and tubes of plastic among a million other products and uses. The word plastic can be easily confused with the adjective plastic which refers to an item that has undergone permanent shape changes.

As seen with the metal aluminum. This metal has characteristics of placidity but is not in any way shape or form plastic. There are two different types of plastic. First we have thermoplastics which will not change after being exposed to high heat and can be easily reformed. Thermosetting polymers on the other hand can be shaped once which is when they become permanently solid in form. Fossil fuels such as gasoline and natural gas provide the material needed for the creation o f plastic. An ever expanding base of products is made with plastics due to their versatility in reference to their water resistance and low cost of manufacturing. Many traditional materials are now obsolete when it comes to the making of certain products. Wood, ceramic, glass and even paper have all replaced by plastics in one way or another.

The only limit to what plastics can be made into lies within organic chemistry. Due to the laws of chemistry they can become only so hard and dense and can only withstand certain degrees of heat. Plastics also resist solvents and oxidation unlike many alloys and metals used in manufacturing. Some plastic can be made to conduct electricity but is costly and takes time.

Plastics are still relatively expensive when it comes to their use on large scale buildings and bridges, but as the technology develops so will the new and cheaper methods of plastic manufacturing. Try to count all the plastic items in your house and you will see just how much they are used every day. If you need help with your plastic machining Anco precision will be here.
